Ay?e, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble. 麥道梅（曾志偉 飾）人如其名，一生歷經坎坷無數，去內衣廠工作就連累企業業績直線下滑，談女朋友就被拋棄，連累的三十多歲的家姐至今未嫁。無奈的姐姐拿出了家傳的玉鐲贈與一事無成的麥道梅，希望幫他轉運，抑郁的麥道梅酒后駕車，被人撞下高坡，迷迷糊糊見到了牛頭馬面，此二鬼卒告知麥道梅陽壽未盡，在王百萬、包黛麗、石神三人身亡之后即是他麥道梅之死期……清醒過來的麥道梅馬上遇上了被撕票的富翁王百萬，而石神便是綁架王百萬的案犯之一，而包黛麗則是石神的女友，為了自救，麥道梅試圖保護包黛麗和石神，因此卷入了這起綁架案，而石神的妹妹石女（鐘楚紅 飾）更是令麥道梅心動。未知麥道梅如何自救，又怎樣贏得石女芳心？

本片是根據實際發生的「少年殺害了祖父母事件」的構思而改編成電影的嶄新故事。長澤扮演懶散奔放的母親·秋子，挑戰墮入了社會黑暗面的女人，而阿部サダヲ則飾演與秋子沒有結婚登記而同居的丈夫·遼，影片將重點刻畫秋子和她年幼的兒子·周平（郡司翔）之間所展開的關系。
