力克一生中的三個階段,都從性開始:五歲對性產生好奇、十六歲初嘗禁果及成年迷失自我,犯上填補不了的錯。在肯雅長大的他,每個人生交叉點,都似乎遭性操控。片中如詩一樣的音樂、攝影及伊甸園中的亞當與夏娃故事,襯托于不同時空之下,成為導演一次試驗習作。影片包含了四組人物的四組故事--如果那叫故事的話:赤身露體的一名黑種男人與一名白種女人在荒野叢林搬演亞當和夏娃的事跡;不到二十歲年紀的兩位男孩女孩在一個讓人感到別扭的時機和場合嘗試x愛;避開喧囂帶著妻兒到鄉間休假的尼克,他不時被孩提時候的經驗(特別是恐慌的經驗)所襲擾;搖身一變,尼克成了一名到北非出差的電視制片人,我們看到,尼克手下的一名男組員用情不一不說還開車誤撞死了一名土著小孩,而且,他還累及了女友被土人刺殺,之前影片暗示,他的女友有個失散的雙胞胎姐妹 ,這些事怎么都亂七八糟的啊,我甚至無法將故事的內容重組清楚。不僅單位故事與單位故事天南地北,來無影去無蹤,之間不講呼應對稱,連單個故事內部也是不要前因后果,觀眾不知道角色何以如此這般,也別想知道他(她)下一步又會如此哪般。唯一可以肯定并把它們拉攏到一塊的跡象是,《迷失禁果》在進行原罪觀念和殖民地經驗的再解重讀:現代的青年男女的越軌舉動應當與"活在"混沌初開時的亞當與夏娃的傳說存在對應關系,去到鄉間的夫婦的渡假生活仍在為文明社會帶來的"罪夢"所侵蝕;,特別是蘊含著之于殖民地的一份疚責感--不僅是讓黑人來充當一回亞當,而且,一對殖民地出身的雙胞胎在被送到白人社會反而離散,撞死土著男孩及由一名白種女人去被殺償命,都讓人覺察到了背后的作者的歉疚自責之心。如果這就是作者所要表達的,那么問題馬上來了,影片這里的表達方式是適切的嗎?這里的言說太文飾了,就像一個有教養的倨傲的貴族,既使自我批評承認錯誤也要拿腔做勢文過飾非,難免讓廣大群眾傷透了腦筋。很想說什么,說時也隆重其事,可結果都嘀咕了些什么人們難以揣度,這也是當代文化的失語癥癥狀之一吧。

  效力于某知名搜索引擎公司的程序員加利·史密斯(多姆納爾·格利森 Domhnall Gleeson 飾)幸運地抽中老板納森(奧斯卡?伊薩克 Oscar Isaac 飾)所開出的大獎,他將受邀前往位于深山的別墅中和老板共度假期。在與世隔絕的別墅中,納森親切地接待了這位員工。 事實上他邀請加利到來還有另一個目的,那就是協助他完成其所開發的智能機器人的測試。天才一般的納森研制了具有獨立思考能力的智能機器人伊娃(艾麗西亞·維坎德 Alicia Vikander 飾),為了確認她是否具有獨立思考的能力,他希望加利能為伊娃進行著名的“圖靈測試”。似乎從第一眼開始,加利便為這臺有著宛如人類般姣好容顏的機器人所吸引。  在隨后的交流中,他所面對的似乎不是冷冰冰的機器,而更像是一個被無辜囚禁起來的可憐少女……

等待方舟

  Set in an underground dungeon inhabited by bundled, ragged human beings, after the nuclear holocaust. The story follows the wanderings of a hero through the situations of survival. People wait for the Ark to arrive and rescue them while their habitat falls apart.  Delving deep into the dusty and long abandonded vaults of b-cinema in search of lost gems always leaves me with a bittersweet taste. On one hand the discovery of unexpected gems where no one would think them possible is a rewarding experience. On the other hand though it makes one wonder how many of these remarkable low-budget oddities, personal love affairs of directors never quite famous and now all but forgotten, have almost forever slipped from memory?  n any case what we have here is a little post-apocalyptic gem from Poland that is really better than it has any right to. The dystopian near future of O-BI, O-BA finds a group of survivors of the nuclear war that ravaged the Earth inhabiting an underworld concrete bunker and biding their time as they wait for the mysterious Ark, an air ship of some kind that will come and save them. The Ark proves to be an elaborate hoax, carefully designed to give hope to the malnourished and desperate denizens of the bunker, while in the meantime the dome that separates their miserable existence from the nuclear winter outside is slowly caving in.  What first striked me about the movie is the design of the bunker and the depiction of the survivors. The survivors are gaunt, filthy and terrible-looking penitents, dressed in rags and aimlessly wandering the neon-lit halls of the bunker like automatons. The bunker is a rundown, seedy place, with bright neon lights peering from all sides like the eyes of malignant beasts.  On one hand it is a slightly 80's depiction of the dystopian future but the movie never stoops down to MAD MAX cheese. Instead it combines biting political satire with the bleak outlook of a world with no future, black comedy with barbs on apathy, religion and power. The survivors, for example, are fed some kind of flour dropping from a tube that hovers in the air - later on we discover the food supervisor uses books and the Bible itself as filler for this meagre meal. There are many such short symbolic touches, perhaps not life-changing or faith-restoring, yet playful, clever and inspired.  One thing is for sure; O-BI, O-BA is not your run-of-the-mill sci-fi schlock. It overcomes its modest budget with creativity and has genuine artistic aspirations both from a writing and directing perspective. My opinion is that it should have been filmed in black and white instead of colour though. The director uses atmospheric light and shadow to great effect and it would have registered even better in stark black and white. The blue-green neon on the other hand outstays its welcome after a while. Just a minor gripe in an otherwise solid b-movie with its heart set in all the right places.  Imagine a less bleak THE ROAD (Cormac McCarthy) being injected with the satire and humour of DR.STRANGELOVE and you're getting there. See it if you can find it.
