　　1997年，一部來自挪威的驚悚片《失眠者》上映后獲得好評，《芝加哥太陽報》的著名影評人羅杰，艾伯特給出了3星半的高分，他盛贊該片“不僅僅是一部驚悚片或動作片，而是一次心理學上的探索與學習”。兩犯罪調查者到挪威北方一個鎮幫助解決一個年輕的女孩的謀殺案，誰知陷入了巨大的困境之中。

塘鵝暗殺令

　　兩名高等法院的法官遭殺手謀殺，法學院高材生達比（朱莉婭?羅伯茨 Julia Roberts 飾）隨后開始調查此案，起草一份該案的報告，名為《塘鵝報告》。達比找到了記者格蘭（丹澤爾?華盛頓 Denzel Washington 飾），因為他是最后一名見到其中一名法官的人，希望能得到他的幫助調查此案。一天格蘭接到了一個神秘人來電，此人自稱知道誰是該案兇手，格蘭跟蹤到了此人，可惜未能攔下他。　　此時，總統暗中命令相關人士不要插手此案。格蘭由此起疑，隨后調查到了總統和馬氏集團關系密切，而且一切證據都表明，馬氏與兩位法官的死有著千絲萬縷的關系！
