一首母親（新高けい子 飾）生前哼唱過的手球歌，令少年阿明（三上博史 飾）魂牽夢繞，不知所措。他曾為此求教過校長和僧侶（伊丹十三 飾），然而沒人知道這支手球歌的來歷。他走過高山大海，見識過這個世界的光怪陸離，只為尋找困擾自己問題的答案。在此期間，童年和青年時代（若松武 飾）的記憶不斷交錯，阿明終于慢慢碰觸到記憶和內心的最深處 本片根據泉鏡花同名短篇小說改編，這是演員三上博史的處女作，著名導演相米慎二則擔任了助理導演的職務。影片拍攝于1979年，但拍攝完畢后卻束之高閣，直到1983年寺山修司去世后才在他的追悼會上首次公開。

Surrounded by modern high-rises, this decrepit structure, with its brutalist architecture and peeling surfaces, is a relic from a dark period in history whose painful memories it has absorbed. In tracing Soriya’s ominous journey back to her roots, Tenement hints at a necessary reckoning with Cambodia’s political past without overplaying its historical dimension. It’s an impressive work from a woefully underrepresented national cinema.
