影片改編自大衛(wèi)·格蘭所著暢銷書《Killers of the Flower Moon：The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI》，聚焦1920年代的美國(guó)俄克拉何馬州，“歐塞奇族印第安人謀殺案”（Osage Indian Mur ders）。當(dāng)年歐塞奇族人因原居地發(fā)現(xiàn)油礦而獲得持續(xù)巨額收入，有人為阻止上述安排而策劃連環(huán)謀殺，4年間60人被殺，震驚全國(guó)。為此當(dāng)年美國(guó)政府成立“調(diào)查局”（即FBI聯(lián)邦調(diào)查局前身）跨部門調(diào)查，揭發(fā)維護(hù)歐塞奇族人權(quán)益的“歐塞奇監(jiān)護(hù)人計(jì)劃”原來(lái)極度腐敗；最后即使在大量證據(jù)下，亦只有少數(shù)的謀殺案獲得起訴。
